‘Laguna Beach’ Cast Reveals Show’s Most Surprising Off Camera Hookups During Reunion Special

Laguna Beachis going back, back to the beginning — and revealing some behind-the-scenes romances that never made it to air.

Us magazine The Cast Of "Laguna Beach" Appear On SiriusXM's The Julia Cunningham Show

During the Friday, April 10, 20th anniversary special, titledThe Reunion: Laguna Beach, the season 1 cast spilled all the tea on the relationships that were — and weren’t — highlighted on the series. The reality show, which ran from 2004 to 2006 on MTV, followed the trials and tribulations of Laguna High School students as they navigated love, friendship and their impending graduation.

But before the secret romances were revealed, hostCasey Wilsonhad a few hot-seat questions for Laguna’s most iconic love triangle:Kristin Cavallari,Stephen CollettiandLauren Conrad.

The love triangle was a major contributing factor to Laguna Beach’s insta-popularity, as the pilot episode picked up right as Stephen was seemingly choosing between Kristin, his on-off girlfriend, and Lauren, his longtime best friend. According to the trio, cameras actually started rolling after the drama was over, but producers “stretched” out the conflict to keep things interesting.

Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari Break Down ‘Laguna Beach’ Reunion, Where They Stand Now

Warning: Spoilers below forThe Reunion: Laguna Beach.

“Stephen and I were together for about a year before cameras ever came. So my sophomore year, his junior year. We then broke up beginning of my junior year, [his] senior year. That’s whenTalan [Torriero]and I had a little something and [he and Lauren] may have had a little something, and then we got back together, and this is all before MTV ever came,” Kristin explained during the special. “And then when they came, they obviously caught wind of that … and MTV knew it was a juicy story line, so they kept it going as much as possible.”

Kristin admitted she felt most “threatened” by producers asking Stephen and Lauren to “hang out” alone, as she was afraid that he might pick Lauren over her. Lauren, meanwhile, said she was mostly broken up about losing a friend in Stephen.

As for when the height of the drama took place, Lauren recalled a disastrous winter formal.

“[Kristin and Stephen] were starting to get back together, and [Stephen and I] were in the back of a big party bus talking. And I was saying, ‘Well, if you guys are getting back together, that’s fine, I don’t need to be a part of this,’” Lauren shared. “And [Kristin] came back and got really upset. It got a little heated.”

Neither Kristin nor Stephen could remember the incident, but according to Lauren, “A shoe got thrown. We had people pulling us [apart].”

Masters 2026: Brooks Koepka's driver was set to the wrong setting

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Brooks Koepka’s driver was set to the wrong setting.

Yahoo Sports

Admittedly, this gets into the weeds of golf nerdity, but when you’re teeing it up at the Masters, golf nerdity is part of doing business.

So let’s explain:

Koepka uses a Titleist GT3, which allows for different settings. These settings are adjustable depending on what kind of ball flight you want — neutral, fade or draw. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but the gist is you set the club to your preferred setting.

Koepka’s preferred setting is “A1,” or standard. But on the driving range Thursday after Round 1 he realized his driver had been set to B1, which is more “flat.”

“No one noticed it,” he said. “Switching back to A1, which is what we usually had it and just driving it better.”

Per Data Golf, Koepka lost .41 strokes off the tee Thursday, but gained .86 on Friday. Not surprising, he hit seven fairways Thursday compared to nine Friday and his score showed it — 72 in Round 1 vs. 69 in Round 2, which puts him 3-under for the tournament, nine shots back of Rory McIlroy.

While Koepka explained the error Friday, he didn’t make much of a thing of it.

“Ball striking has been really good this week. Putted better today. Short game has been kind of iffy,” he said after his round. “But, yeah, I like the way I'm playing right now. Just need to be a little bit more aggressive.”

Koepka, playing in his first major since leaving LIV Golf, currently sits in a tie for 13th.

ESPN accused of 'desecrating' The Masters with controversial coverage decision

ESPN is once again taking heat after one of the broadcaster featured a non-golf star prominently during its Masters coverage.

The Mirror Social media fans are angry with ESPN after WWE wrestler was on the Masters broadcast

TheMastersis widely regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the sport. ESPN already was shut down by Augusta National Golf Club when theydenied contributor Pat McAfee a studio spot on their grounds during the tournament.

During Thursday's opening round, viewers on social media were outraged after WWE wrestler Michael Gregory Mizanin, or The Miz, sat alongside longtime ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge during the Masters broadcast.

•Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes' 'tourist trap' steakhouse blasted in viral video

•Noteworthy Andy Reid change at league meeting sparks questions about Chiefs coach's future

“Just a continuation of how ESPN has degraded over a number of years,” wrote one user on X.

“I don't think ESPN actually employs golf analysts/personalities anymore. So they just take from what they have and these folks are all about it. Who wouldn't want to get paid to be at the Masters,” wrote another.

Another angry social media user wrote, “ESPN has desecrated the Masters with their coverage this week.”

The Miz wasn't the only non-golf athlete on site this week. Jason Kelce was at Augusta for ESPN as a sideline reporter during the Par 3 Contest on Wednesday. He made his introduction on the broadcast in a caddie outfit, unfolding a lawn chair and talking noticeably loud at an otherwise quiet and calm course.

'The Miz' was seen on the Masters broadcast

The most prestigious event in golf approved for Kelce to be there — although it denied his fellow ESPN star McAfee and his broadcast crew — while Scott Van Pelt and Marty Smith performed more traditional interviews along the sidelines as Kelce wandered the grounds, and viewers on social media weren’t in favor of the retired NFL star being on their televisions.

"I’ll lose my mind if I see Jason Kelce hit a golf shot during this par 3 contest," one X user wrote. "Jason Kelce just absolutely brutal in his first appearance at Augusta," wrote another.

•Xander Schauffele loses golf ball in Masters patron's bag full of merchandise

•Staggering cost to watch every NFL game next season with 10 subscriptions needed

Kelce's appearance started with him walking in the midst of fans, screaming about his lawn chair as the Par 3 Contest kicked off behind him. He unfolded a Masters lawn chair and sat down as the camera spun around him with patrons blatantly staring in awkward silence.

"1) Absolutely no one wants to hear or see from Jason Kelce during Masters week. Really bad choice to allow that. 2) It’s time for @LPGA ladies to have a go at your beautiful little piece of heaven. Not an exhib either. Full on battle," wrote someone else.

Tigers CF Parker Meadows hospitalized after collision

Detroit Tigers center fielder Parker Meadows will be hospitalized overnight in Minneapolis after being carted off the field due to a scary collision in the bottom of the eighth inning of a game against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon.

Field Level Media

Meadows was playing center field and Riley Greene was playing left field when Twins hitter Josh Bell hit a slicing fly ball toward the left-center field gap. Both outfielders converged on the ball, and Greene made the catch but his head clipped the side of Meadows' face as the players collided.

Meadows fell to the outfield grass and remained still for a few moments as teammates and trainers came to check on him. He rolled onto his back as trainers attended to him.

"That was an ugly, scary one, and there's a lot of concern for him," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said after Detroit's 3-1 loss. "When we got out there, it looked like he had bit his lip or inside his mouth, so there was some blood, and he was pretty out of it. ...

"Those are scary collisions. You don't know what you're going to get when you get there. Obviously we're going to get him checked out for everything, but this one worries me."

Eventually, Meadows was able to sit up and gingerly get to his feet. He walked slowly a few steps to a cart that trainers had requested to take him off the field.

Greene was deeply concerned after the contest.

"It was a terrible feeling," Greene said. "I still feel terrible."

Javier Baez moved from shortstop to center field to replace Meadows. Kevin McGonigle entered the game to play shortstop.

Meadows went 0-for-3 and is hitting .250 with two RBIs and three stolen bases in 12 games. The 26-year-old is in his fourth season with the Tigers.

The Tigers open a three-game series against the visiting Miami Marlins on Friday and it's still to be determined if Meadows will be able to play during the series.

But Detroit right-hander Jack Flaherty knows it's not too soon for everyone to pull for Meadows.

"You just hope everybody has thoughts and prayers with him, and he's going to be all right," Flaherty said. "He's a tough guy. We continue to pray over him. Tough way to end the series. Just pray to God for Parker. He's as good of a guy as they come. Scary situation."

Dianna Russini sidelined by New York Times during investigation into Mike Vrabel photos

National NFL reporterDianna Russiniis now under internal investigation by The Athletic, according to multiple reports.

USA TODAY Sports

The news comes after theNew York Post's Page Six released photos on April 7of Russini withNew England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabelat an Arizona resort. Russini's coverage and conduct have been called into question since the photos surfaced.

They showed the pair in bathing suits at a pool and also hugging on a rooftop at the adult-only Ambiente in Sedona, Arizona, two weekends ago. Both Vrabel, 50, and Russini, 43, are married to other people.

The Athletic, which is owned and operated by The New York Times, opted to reopen the internal investigation after the Post's report "raised additional concerns that are now being further reviewed," according toESPN.

Russini will be sidelined during the investigation, as first reported byFront Office Sports' Ryan Glasspiegelon April 10. Russini's last byline for The Athletic was published on April 7.

Steven Ginsberg, executive editor of The Athletic, initially put out a statement in support of Russini, who joined the outlet in 2023.

"These photos are misleading and lack essential context," Ginsberg said. "These were public interactions in front of many people. Dianna is a premier journalist covering the NFL and we’re proud to have her at The Athletic."

What Dianna Russini, Mike Vrabel said about resort photos

BothVrabel and Russini issued statementsdownplaying the photos, indicating they were together platonically.

"These photos show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable,"Vrabel told the Post. "This doesn’t deserve any further response."

"The photos don’t represent the group of six people who were hanging out during the day," Russini said. "Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues."

Why the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel photos invite scrutiny

Russini, a former anchor and reporter for ESPN, has come under fire since the Post's story surfaced. While the photos alone don't provide proof of any wrongdoing or an inappropriate relationship, the optics represent a blurring of lines in the journalism industry.

New York Times' personal relationships policy for journalists

The New York Times has a clear message on its journalists' personal relationships and the impact they have on the publication's coverage.

"Relationships with sources require sound judgment and self discipline to prevent the fact or appearance of partiality," the Times'editorial standards handbook reads.

Maintaining objectivity is key for any journalist and the publication they represent. Even if the Russini and Vrabel exchange was a complete coincidence, the images tell a story that could damage The Athletic's credibility. From a purely professional standpoint, that relationship would have to be disclosed if the pair involved in a close relationship.

"Clearly, romantic involvement with a news source would foster an appearance of partiality," the handbook states. "Therefore staff members who develop close relationships with people who might figure in coverage they provide, edit, package or supervise must disclose those relationships to the standards editor."

The same also applies to family ties and other close relationships.

"To avoid such conflicts, staff members may not write, edit or oversee coverage about people to whom they are related by blood or marriage or with whom they have close personal relationships."
